HUD Issues Tenant Protection Vouchers for Select Apartment Complexes

The US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is funding Tenant Protection Vouchers (TPV)* for 1,200 households displaced from select apartment complexes as a result of Hurricane Katrina. Pre-Katrina residents of the following complexes should have received an informational mailing about the program in July:

> Forest Park Apartments – New Orleans, LA
> Redwood I Apartments – Kenner, LA
> Redwood II Apartments – Kenner, LA
> Walnut Square Apartments – New Orleans, LA
> Tanglewood I Apartments – Westwego, LA
> Tanglewood II Apartments – Westwego, LA

Residents must return the certification form by October 31, 2008. For further information call (205) 731-2611 x1091.

A  TPV provides rental assistance to help families’ rent decent, safe and sanitary housing in the private rental market. If you are currently receiving assistance through the Disaster Voucher Program (DVP) or Section 8 Project Based Assistance, you are still eligible for consideration of a TPV.

TPVs are only available for a limited time. If you were displaced by Hurricane Katrina from one of the above properties, please contact the (above) HUD staff member immediately. Displaced residents must have their occupancy status at the time of Hurricane Katrina verified and complete a family certification no later than October 31, 2008.

 * You must meet the eligibility requirements of the Section 8 Housing Voucher Program to receive voucher assistance.
